On Thursday, tennis player Frances Tiafoe (aka "Big Foe") announced the launch of the Frances Tiafoe Charitable Fund. He reached the semi-finals of the US Open last year and now he wants to give back to the community. The Fund has received overwhelming support from the USTA Foundation. Already, he has secured $250,000 in start-up funding.

The 25-year-old, who is now ranked in the top 10 of the ATP, made the following statement to the media on Thursday: "I’ve wanted to do this for a long time... I’m a guy who was given a chance—who wouldn’t have really had one—and took what I was able to do with it.”

Tiafoe's ascent from abject poverty to respectable affluence is a well-known success story. The American pro tennis player, who is currently worth between $4 and $11 million, favours a more aggressive and offensive approach to the game. The likes of Adidas, Nike, and TAG Heuer have contributed significantly to his wealth through endorsements, prize money, and sponsorships.

Frances Sr. worked as a maintenance man at the Junior Tennis Champions Centre (JTCC) in College Park after moving from Sierra Leone to Maryland in the 1990s. Frances and his twin brother Franklin got their start in the game right here.

END.
